An action for six days and six nights. Hidden behind a curtain in the gallery space, Themann stamps one sheet of paper with every breath taken. The stamp reads ‘Certificate Of Occurrence’. Curtains and colours are changed every twenty-four hours for six days.

Six stacks of paper are presented as catalogued residue of the action ‘Breathing In Progress’. These are assembled and referenced on a small wall text,as follows: 

 

There are one thousand four hundred and forty minutes in the day. The average adult takes eight to twelve breaths per minute.A relaxed adult, drawing a minimum of eight breaths a minute, takes at least 11560 breaths every 24 hours. Here, inside this gallery, each stack contains at least 11560 sheets of paper individually stamped by the artist with‘CERTIFICATE OF OCCURRENCE’.
